An Enigma Wrapped in a Mystery, Wrapped in a Puzzle, Wrapped in a Dream

April 29, 2010

Apparently this skirt is like some sort or greasy dude that is incapable of being captured in a photograph; you only get a blurry shiny spot, Amber knows.  I guess it was for the best because it was so windy and sunny that getting pictures was not only impossible, but I had to change into a warmer outfit.  BONUS! Two outfit posts in 1!

Goddam it’s so freakin’ bright and windy! Whatever, I will just claim these pictures are art.

So, in case you don’t recognize the door, it is that time of the month, yes lady time, and by lady time I mean girls’ night, and by night, I mean day.  It was chilly, I restyled; lowbrow styled, if you will.

Yes, we do go to the same place every month.  Elliot’s at the Blackburn in Gloucester.  It really is just perfect for girls’ night.  Oh and these shoes are one of the biggest splurges in my collection, mostly because I didn’t buy them on sale, I bought them for my bachelorette party in Miami courtesy of my big sis.

Denim, Denim Everywhere

April 28, 2010

I am terrified of the “denim-on-denim” look, in a small town, it’s not really ironic.  This is as far as I can take it.  Do you like how I alternate days were I dress girly and manish?

I am also digging mixing brown and black, what a rebel, huh?  I do not have a whole lot to say today since I really just want to vent about the cold, so I will refrain and share that I got to take pics just in time for a little window of warm sun!

Mailbox Mavens: Lace Mini Skirt

April 27, 2010

It has been a bit since I post a Mailbox Mavens piece and I couldn’t be more excited!  This lovely lace shirt belongs to Christina of Fabulocity in Amish Country, the genius behind creating Mailbox Mavens,  here is how she styled it:

Megan from the Discerning Fashionista was the first to nab this up, what was fun about this piece was that it came with a challenge! If you have not read Megan’s blog, she is the queen of color, so you can only image how seriously she took this challenge, which was to mix this skirt with a bright color or pattern:

Now it’s my turn!  I had to kick it up by trying to go bright color AND a pattern.  Honestly, I think it works, it’s still demure while being a little outside the box!

It’s a little chilly today, so I will throw on a cardi, but I love when I get skirts from my lovely mavens because I get in mommy mode and pass right by them in my closet, I also think this is my first bare-legged post!

Blouse: Marshall’s

Skirt: on loan from Christina for Mailbox Mavens

Behold!

April 23, 2010

The heavens have opened up and angels are singing.  I feel like I was rewarding for some sort of good deed I did today.  I am trying not to put much weight on possessions and all that silly business, but homegirl likes something fancy now and again 🙂 .  Harper had a baby play date today, like most Fridays, we eat sushi and drink wine while they play and snuggle.  Perfect weekday wind-down.

Well, apparently she has a cousin that works for Marc Jacobs.  I apparently she is his PUBLICIST! I did get a little dirt, but I have to stay tight lipped about it if I want more swag :).  She very casually said, “I was wondering if you wanted this bracelet, I never wear it, oh and there is no label or anything because it was made the NYFW runway show, or something.”  Umm, yes please!  I feel like this belongs in a museum!  I am on a super wood kick right now so I would have loved it if it were from, I don’t know, someplace sucky.

Bow down and behold!

She said she would defo send some more treats my way, but honestly, how could it get better?!  You will be seeing an obnoxious amount of this bracelet in my outfits, but hey, at least I have another accessory besides my watch!

Pantomimein’ It

April 22, 2010

I felt uber french in my casual little outfit and for some reason my mind always goes “mime.”   I also got my first negative comment today, so I have decided enough talking, apparently me talking is bad.  So now I will just try to get out of this box:

You know what?! Strike that from the record.  Let’s try again:  I got a ton of fab comments today from the most stylish ladies I know.

By-the-by, now that we are talking again, can you tell I grew up with an unhealthy obsession with I Love Lucy?  Honestly, I really wanted to name Harper “Lucy” but Lucy Langley?  That’s kind of tough, I can’t go anywhere without some retired frat dude telling me I have a stripper/hooker name, I couldn’t do that to her.  Also, little fun fact, I have a lisp, I don’t want to be taunted for mispronouncing my own daughter’s name.

Also #2, why they fuck would you name a condition that the people with it can’t pronounce it? (I am very sensitive)

Almost done, fun fact #3: I embraced the hooker when I got my tongue pierced my freshman year of college, for that one month, lisp was gone, but so was my dignity.

Mourning Dress

April 21, 2010

As you may have heard, my favorite shoes wandered off to heaven.  In my state of grief I’m feeling all dark and twisty, all rebel without a cause.  Ok, we are really just going out to dinner.  But I am still pretty bummed about those shoes.

I haven’t worn this dress forever, actually I think it was my first outfit post, back then they were very few and far between.  I hadn’t lost much of the baby weight by then and was fairly traumatized by these pics, though I am sure I am the only one who would notice.

Dress and Tights: Target

Moto Jacket: Forever 21

Boots: Blowfish

Sunnies: Mall Kiosk

Tragedy Strikes: Fashion Victim

April 21, 2010

No I am not just avoiding an outfit post today, I am gonna take pictures in like 10 mins, promise….

So remember yesterday when I thought I would get all super creative and climb up rocks and what not for 100 unusable pictures.  Well I guess I went a little overboard because I destroyed my favorite new shoes: my modcloth wedges! I swear I can hear taps…

It is a mild understatement to say that I am devastated.  I LOVE these wedges.  I looked for the perfect wedges for months, and they are them.  Mourn along with me.  *Taps continue*

Oh No! We have a Future Fashionista on Our Hands!

April 21, 2010

Quickie post!  Today when I was throwing on clothes to take Harper to the beach I plopped her in my “pile” (you know that pile of clean clothes that you made while trying to get ready the day before and just keep moving it around your room?) to which she grabbed my neon orange heels and just had to wear them to the beach, and then maybe out to split some apps and prosecco with her girlfriends.  She needs bright shoes to deflect attention from her Peter Boyle hairline.

❤ her 🙂

Graduated

April 20, 2010

I’m done! I’m done! IIIIII”MMMMMM DOOOOOOONNNNNNNEEEE!! YEAH! *throws a perfect Howard Dean fist* Relief.  My brain if fried, yet I feel somehow lighter, except in the upper arm area, but no one is perfect.

The funny thing about these pictures, I took these few and thought, “I am going to get creative, today.”   Out of about 100 pictures I took, below is my ONE usable one.  I took some beautiful one sans my head, but thought that was pretty important.  I really just need to get a little tripod.  That can be next on my list 🙂

OH! One more thing!  I got 2 really funny ones that will certainly make their way on here soon.

Leopard Tank: Marshall’s $12

Leggings: Marshalls $6

Wedges: Modcloth $39

Belt: Target $16?

Lazy Sunday

April 19, 2010

After we went to go see “Chronicles of Narnia” (see: Lazy Sunday) we went to the Park to chill out.  To be honest I was really burned out and stressed about my final final.  Not that it would be particularly hard, but because this was it.  I wanted to finish off my last classes with A’s, and this was the only one in question.  I just needed some cozy clothes, sun and grass:

And by grass I literally mean grass.  Hey, look how cool that tree is! I am still struggling with learning how to get the lighting and focus just right with the new camera, but I think I am getting there.  I got a handy tip from a guy at the park, “what are you taking pictures right into the sun for? Turn your flash on!” Thanks, Turd.

This outfit is actually very worn, I didn’t buy these as “deconstructed” pieces.  I have had the sweatshirt since I was 8 or 9 and the jeans were a pristine, very dark wash, trouser when I bought them.  I can just see the stress on my face in these pictures, poor Jadey.  Spoiler Alert! I took these yesterday, I just finished my final and NAILED IT!  WOO WOO!!
